On February 15, 2026, from the Wilaya of Tindouf, Ms. Nassima Arhab, Minister of Vocational Training and Education, officially launched the February 2026 vocational training intake, in the presence of local authorities, members of the training community, and representatives of economic and social partners.
This session marks the enrollment of more than 288,000 new trainees across various training schemes and programs, reflecting the growing interest in vocational training pathways as a key driver for supplying the national economy with qualified skills. This intake is characterized by the continued alignment of training offers with priority sectors. The industrial sector recorded a significant increase in enrollment of 53.10%, particularly in specializations related to mechanical industries, petrochemicals, and mining. Notable growth was also observed in digitalization and information and communication technologies, with an increase of 116.85%, in addition to agriculture, construction, and public works, in response to labor market needs and economic operators’ requirements.
As part of supporting young beneficiaries of the unemployment allowance introduced by the President of the Republic, opportunities have been opened for their integration into the labor market through qualifying and certified training programs, thereby enhancing their economic inclusion and professional skills.
On this occasion, it was announced that the National Institute Specialized in Vocational Training in Tindouf has been upgraded to a National Center of Excellence in Mining and Railways. A comprehensive mapping of the mining sector’s needs has also been developed, as part of a strategic approach to support major national projects, particularly in southern regions, and to strengthen the training of highly qualified skills aligned with the requirements of these vital sectors, reinforcing the link between vocational training and national economic dynamics.
The Minister also highlighted the continued implementation of the training demand forecasting program, in coordination with economic operators and productive sectors, to ensure alignment between training offers and the needs of the national economy. This initiative also supports trainees’ integration into the labor market and promotes an entrepreneurial culture through the expansion of the Entrepreneurship Development Centers network and the support provided to young people in launching their economic projects.
Recognizing Algeria’s rich natural, cultural, and tourism potential, the Minister announced the launch of training programs in the specialization of “Tourist Guide” as part of a process aimed at regularizing the professional status of 1,715 non-accredited tourist guides nationwide. These guides will be granted officially recognized certificates based on their field experience, contributing to the valorization of local assets, the creation of sustainable jobs, and the strengthening of tourism as a promising driver of local development, particularly in southern wilayas.
At the international level, the Minister reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to strengthening its presence within the global professional excellence ecosystem through the participation of the national Skills Olympics champions for the first time in the WorldSkills International competition in Shanghai, China. This followed a national selection process involving more than 8,000 trainees, from which top competitors were selected according to standards inspired by international benchmarks.
Within the framework of African cooperation, the Minister recalled the inauguration of the African Vocational Training Institute “Sahel” in the Wilaya of Boumerdes, as well as the allocation of 500 training scholarships to foreign trainees from more than 40 countries during the February 2026 intake, reflecting Algeria’s commitment to supporting skills mobility and strengthening African cooperation.
The Minister also referred to the continued digital transformation of the sector through the development of digital platforms and the enhancement of electronic services for trainees and stakeholders, alongside the strengthening of human resources through social and professional measures, including an exceptional promotion process benefiting sector employees, aimed at improving working conditions and enhancing pedagogical performance.
The Minister concluded the event by reaffirming the commitment to further developing the vocational training and education system in line with economic and technological transformations, officially declaring the launch of the February 2026 vocational training intake
